Download and update the Chrome sidebar

Website and Chrome sidebar v1.5.0

This page is the public install and update location. Before updating, export a complete backup. Keep the old sidebar until the new version and imported data are confirmed.

Install in Chrome

  1. Download the zip and unzip it so you can see manifest.json.
  2. Open chrome://extensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top right).
  4. Click Load unpacked and choose that unzipped folder.
  5. Click the Total Commitment icon to open the sidebar.

Update safely

  1. In the old sidebar, open Journal → Backup.
  2. Choose Download encrypted copy. Keep both the .tcbak file and recovery-key .json file together.
  3. Leave the old sidebar installed.
  4. Download and unzip the new version into a new folder.
  5. Open chrome://extensions, choose Load unpacked, and select the new folder.
  6. Open the new sidebar and confirm its version.
  7. Under Journal → Backup, use Import / Replace: import the recovery-key JSON first, then the matching .tcbak file.
  8. Confirm the Journal, Notes, timers and Companion data are present in the new sidebar.
  9. Only after confirming the new version and data, remove the old sidebar.

The old and new unpacked folders create separate Chrome extension storage. The backup/import step is therefore required.
